unnamed Started in 2010 as the solo project of multi-instrumentalist/filmaker Dean Tzenos, Toronto's Odonis Odonis have quickly become a staple of the industrial scene, thanks to a series of records that, although featuring in full display the genre's signature, clangy noisiness, never lack in the production department, often offering also a melodic component inherited from drone rock of bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their 2016 album 'Port Plague' represents a rather obvious change in the band's sonic trajectory, delivering a sound that removes almost entirely the previously dominant distorted guitar component, to rely more consistently on synths. Producers are pretty much the chefs of the creative process, so it's hard to conceive how a band like NYC's WIN WIN - comprised of three electronic producers - can actually function without major recurrent conflicts of ego. The secret is probably - as with any successful musical project involving more than one person - in the trust and bond built during a collaboration that's now more than a decade long. Know Your Filters: Low Pass, Band Pass, High Pass, Resonance.

Electronic music wouldn't sound much different from its electric sister if filters hadn't been invented. A filter is a frequency amplifier (or "tamer") device, i.e. an effect that operates on the frequencies of a sound - it can boost them, cut them or mute them, but it can't create ones that don't exist in the original. So it's basically just an EQ, although one that gets used for sci-fi sounding effects rather than for improving the quality of recordings (like during the mixing process)....
