Origin Effects Magma57

English pedal builder Origin Effects is on a mission to deliver sturdy and classic-sounding stompboxes for tone connoisseurs with tweaking impulses.

The Magma57 is presented as an amp-in-a-box with “true pitch modulation” – both name and description hint at a Magnatone emulation, precisely the legendary Magnatone 200 Series, known for their warm tones used from clean jazz to full-on swirling psychedelia.

Three grey knobs (Drive, Tone and Output) control the overdrive, which is based on an analog circuit inspired by the Magnatone 213 “Troubadour,” while two larger golden ones set the Vibrato’s Speed and Intensity. The Vibe has its own footswitch (left one) and three modes accessible through a toggle switch that slightly change the phase of the wet and dry signal, with results ranging from classic Vibrato (center) to chorus (0°) to a unique out of phase kind of chorus (180°). Another toggle next to the Speed knob allows for faster speeds (x1, x2, x3).

At the end of the chain, a two-way toggle switch and a small knob control a Post Drive EQ that can add two flavors of extra color when needed.

The Origin Effects Magma 57 looks like another solid release from this British manufacturer, check out the videos, below.
