The new Xotic SP Compressor offers the same OTA (operational trans-conductance amplifier) technology used in what many guitar players consider the best compressor ever, the Ross Compressor. This new SP Compressor reportedly has superb tone quality featuring a wide variety of compressor tones from vintage, to subtle, to modern and more. It’s super flexible and also has a dry blend knob, up to +15dB of boost and an internal dip switch for attack control.

When you put a compressor on guitar, you know that your tone can suffer the dynamic “squashing,” and that’s why quality compressors like this one are said to be “transparent”: because they make your performence sound more dynamically consistent without affecting the instrument’s tone.

The original ones command quite the premium on the second hand market and are nearly impossible to source in decent shape. The SP Compressor is a take on that classic sound but goes even further with its additional controls for Lo, Mid and Hi. I really like the small footprint. I see more and more of these “nano” designs lately. Keep it up pedal designers. – Gus Green
